Snoop Dogg’s 24-year-old daughter, Cori Broadus, revealed early Thursday morning that she has been hospitalized after suffering a severe stroke. In an Instagram story post from what appeared to be a hospital bed, Broadus shared that she started “breaking down crying” when doctors informed her of the stroke.
The sudden medical emergency is alarming for the daughter of rapper Snoop Dogg, real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., who is only 24 years old. Ten to 15 percent of strokes occur in younger adults, though incidence rates have risen over recent decades. Some risk factors associated with strokes in young people include high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, and drug or alcohol use. In a follow-up Instagram story post, Broadus questioned, “I’m only 24 what did I do in my past to deserve all of this?” This seeming reference to her medical history offers some insight. In September 2022 interviews, Broadus shared that she was diagnosed with the chronic autoimmune disease lupus at age 6. She has taken 10 to 12 pills daily to manage the condition, which can damage tissues and organs throughout the body.

She told People Magazine that she went “cold turkey” off long-term medications, pursuing all-natural treatments instead. “I wanted better for myself,” she said. “I wanted to change because it just became a lot. I’m only 24 years old, taking 10 to 12 pills every single day. So I kind of just went cold turkey.”
It is unclear if or how Broadus’ decision to stop prior medical treatments may have factored into her experiencing a severe stroke at such a young age. Strokes are complex medical events with many potential underlying causes. However, studies have shown that stroke hospitalization rates for young adults aged 25-44 increased by nearly 44 percent between 2000-2010.
Some of the reasons may include high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, and drug or alcohol use. Hereditary factors or structural problems in blood vessels or the heart can also play a role. The rapper and his wife Shante Broadus, Cori’s mother, married in 1997 and also share a son Corde, 29, and another son Cordell, 26.
